LPN IV Therapy Course – 40 hour course
Dates: January 13, January 20, January 27, February 3, February 11

This course is intended to meet the statewide standardized curriculum for the instruction of LPNs to practice IV therapy/IV push administration in keeping with the Board of Nursing position paper defining the scope of practice. This course is designed to offer LPNs the basic knowledge necessary to safely assist the registered nurse in administering and monitoring selected peripheral IV medications under the supervision of the registered nurse. Related anatomy and physiology, IV fluids, delivery methods, pharmacology and administration techniques related to selected drugs, preventing and monitoring for complications in IV therapy, legal and ethical issues, documentation standards, role of RN supervisor, and other topics will be covered.
Pre-requisites: A minimum of 6 months experience as a licensed nurse, unemcumbered license, reference from supervisor.

S.T.A.B.L.E – 8 hours

Endorsed by the March of Dimes and the Hospital Corporation of America Perinatal Advisory Board, S.T.A.B.L.E. is the first neonatal education program to focus exclusively on the post-resuscitation/pre-transport stabilization care of sick newborns. S.T.A.B.L.E stands for the six assessment parameters taught in the course: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support.

Basic Arrhythmia Recognition/3 Lead EKG – 16 hours

Students attending the course will be taken through a step-by-step process of rhythm interpretation and given multiple variations of practice rhythms for one-on-one instruction and group participation. Students will be administered a post course written evaluation to ensure every student leaves the classroom with confidence in rhythm interpretation. This is a great course for both beginners and seasoned providers as well as a wonderful review for ACLS.

12 Lead ECG Interpretation – 16 hours

This 16 hour course designed for both new and experienced pre-hospital providers and healthcare professionals who wish to gain a thorough understanding in the analysis and understanding of 12 Lead ECG’s. Anatomy with physiology will be reviewed to include the conduction system and circulatory system. Students will participate in discussions including case studies of on how the pathophysiology of the acute MI process affects the normal 12 Lead ECG’s. Topics stressed will include normal 12 Lead’s, S-T Segments, isoelectric lines, “J” points, R-wave progression, bundle-branch blocks, axis deviations, and disease processes. Students will complete the course with comfort and an understanding of 12 Lead ECG interpretation. Please note that this is NOT an arrhythmia course. Students must have an understanding of 3 Lead and arrhythmia interpretation before attempting this course.

Monitoring Nitrous Oxide for the Dental Assistant (4 hours)
The use of nitrous oxide and oxygen for relative analgesia is similar to the uses for general anesthesia. It is important to understand that these are distinctly different techniques and applications. This course is designed to familiarize the student with the Dental Practice Act in Tennessee and to provide information relative to the proper role of the assistant during the administration of nitrous oxide/oxygen in the dental office. The student will learn the correct application for nitrous oxide/oxygen use in terms of philosophy and psychology in controlling anxiety and pain, the clinical differences between relative analgesia and general anesthesia, the physiology of normal respirations, the side effects of relative analgesia, and identify the four stages of anesthesia, the role of a dental assistant, equipment used to administer nitrous oxide/oxygen and safety measures.

This course has been designed to teach and evidenced-based approach to resuscitation of the newly born. The causes, prevention, and management of mild to severe neonatal asphyxia are carefully explained to that health care professionals may develop optimal knowledge and skill in resuscitation. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is based upon the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

EMT and Paramedic Courses

NREMT-Basic Refresher (3 days, 8 hours each)
This course is an approved 24 hour DOT National Standard EMT-Basic Refresher, which covers all modules of the EMT Basic curriculum plus skills review and practice. This course is designed for the EMT Basic completing the 24 hour refresher requirement, EMT Basic’s completing CEU’s, EMT Basic candidates in need of assistance in successfully completing the NREMT-B exam, and “Re-entry” students or EMT’s who have allowed their National Registry Certification to lapse within a 2 year period. Classroom discussion, skills practice, and group activities will be conducted during this 24 hour course.

NREMT-Paramedic Refresher (6 days, 8 hours each)
This course is an approved 48 hour DOT National Standard EMT-Paramedic Refresher, which covers both Mandatory and Flexible Core Content. Topics include: Airway and Breathing, Cardiology, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, and Obstetrics with Pediatrics. This course is designed for the experienced paramedic to refresh your memory and learn the latest skills and techniques, paramedics in need of completing CEU’s only, paramedic candidates in need of assistance in successfully completing the NREMT-P exam, and
“Re-entry” students or Paramedics who have allowed their National Registry Certification to lapse within a 2 year period. Classroom discussion, skills practice, and group activities will be conducted during this 48 hour course.

EMT Extended Skills/Reciprocity Course (5 days, 8 hours each didactic and one day, 10 hour clinical component) The State of Tennessee's EMT Extended Skills Curriculum is a 40 hour didactic and 10- hours of clinical experience course that prepares EMT-Basics to perform advanced skills. The 10-hour clinical rotation occurs the week following the didactic training. The clinical rotation is from 9:00 am – 7:00 pm in a local Emergency Department. Course content will include the following:
· Intravenous Fluid Initiation
· Intravenous Administration of D50W
· Emergency Pharmacology and Medication Administration
· Multi-lumen Airway Devices
*Testing for licensure by the State EMS Division is usually scheduled within one month after course completion.
Pre-requisites:
· Submission of a medical statement signed by your physician
· Submission of a background check. A list of approved vendors will be provided.
· Verification of professional liability coverage. If liability coverage is needed, a list of vendors will be provided to you.
· Copy of current CPR card and current EMT license
· Submit 50% deposit of payment no later than 2 weeks prior to class to confirm reserved seating. Balance of course fees is due no later that Day 1 of the course.

Clinical Instructors Education and Credentialing Program (15 hours, 2 days)
This course was developed by the American Physical Therapy Association for anyone interested in or involved with clinical education. The workshop addresses issues of planning for students during their clinical education experiences, developing and facilitating learning experiences, supporting ongoing learning through questioning and effective feedback, and partnering between the academic program and clinical sites. Evaluation tools and skills are discussed, as well as the identification and management of challenging situations. The program includes a brief look at legal, regulatory and ADA implications for clinical educators, including guidelines for student supervision. Successful completion of the six Assessment Centers results in the awarding of APTA Clinical Instructor Credentialing.

Geriatric Education for Emergency Medical Services – (16 hours, 2 days) The proportion of the aged in society today is greater than ever before, and growing faster than any other segment of our population. Current indications are that approximately 34% of calls for emergency medical services, or 3.4 million emergency responses involve patients over the age of 60. GEMS represents the most credible and complete source of medical information for older adults. Topics include aging, changes with aging, communication and assessment, communicating with older people and their caregivers, pharmacology, end-of-life care issues, trauma, falls, immobilization, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological emergencies, altered mental status, DNRs, stroke, respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies, elder abuse, neglect, medication interactions, dementia vs. delirium, just to name a few! American Heart Association Courses

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider Course – (16 hours, 2 days)
ACLS Provider Course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital. The goal of the course is to improve the quality of care provided to the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. In this course the student will enhance skills in the treatment of arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiac and respiratory cases.
Pre-requisites:
· Purchase the ACLS Student/Provider Manual and bring to class
· Able to perform BLS CPR skills using the most current AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC
· Reading and interpreting ECGs
· Understanding ACLS drugs
· Completion of the ECG and pharmacology precourse assessment tests on the ACLS student CD. Students must print their scores and bring to class.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Renewal Course
– (8 hours, 1 day)
This course is for the current ACLS Provider to renew their ACLS Provider status. This Training Center does not accept expired ACLS Providers in a Renewal Course. Expired ACLS Providers will take the ACLS Provider Course.
Pre-requisites:
· Current ACLS Provider Card – bring to class
· Completion of the ECG and pharmacology precourse assessment tests on the ACLS student CD. Students must print their scores and bring to class. If the student no longer has their student CD, they may request a written version from this Training Center. It must be completed prior to class and brought to class.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor Course – (8 hours, 1 day)
The American Heart Association Instructor Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in ACLS. Instructors must be licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation where such skills are within the provider’s scope of practice. The ideal Instructor Candidate should be motivated to teach and facilitate learning, ensure students acquire the skills necessary for successful course completion, and view student assessment as a way to improve individual knowledge and skills. Instructor Candidates will align with a Training Center and submit documentation of monitoring of teaching before an Instructor card will be obtained.
Pre-requisites:
· Possess a current ACLS Provider Card and bring to class
· Completion of Core Instructor Course – bring course completion certificate to class
· Possess and Instructor Manual and bring to class
· Letter of Recommendation and Instructor Candidate Application completed and signed by an ACLS Instructor

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Instructor Renewal Course – (6 hours, 1 day)
Instructors have two options to renew their status. This Training Center does not accept expired Instructor Status in a Renewal Course. Expired Instructors must repeat the Instructor recognition process, including the Core Instructor Course if not already completed.
Option 1
· Maintain current Provider status – as evidenced by current Provider card OR demonstration of acceptable Provider skills and successful completion of the Provider written examination
· Teach a minimum of 4 classroom provider courses in 2 years at the Training Center
· Attend updates as required within the previous 2 years
· Be monitored teaching a regular or renewal course in the preceding 2 years. The first monitoring after the initial Instructor Course does not satisfy this requirement

· Successful completion of an Instructor Course

· Have completed the AHA Core Instructor Course
· Be aligned with an AHA Training Center
· Have a current AHA Healthcare Provider card; for non-healthcare professionals, a current Heartsaver First Aid provider card
· A letter of recommendation and Instructor Candidate Application completed
· Purchase and review BLS/Heartsaver Instructor Manual prior to the first day of class
· Bring Instructor Manual to class

Instructors have two options to renew their status. This Training Center does not accept expired Instructor Status in a Renewal Course. Expired Instructors must repeat the Instructor recognition process, including the Core Instructor Course if not already completed.
Option 1
· Maintain current Provider status – as evidenced by current Provider card OR demonstration of acceptable Provider skills and successful completion of the Provider written examination
· Teach a minimum of 4 classroom provider courses in 2 years at the Training Center
· Attend updates as required within the previous 2 years
· Be monitored teaching a regular or renewal course in the preceding 2 years. The first monitoring after the initial Instructor Course does not satisfy this requirement
Option 2
· Successful completion of an Instructor Course

HeartSaver CPR/AED/First Aid* (6.5 hours, 1 day)
The American Heart Association’s Heartsaver family of products were designed as a flexible way to provide training in CPR, AED use, and first aid for people requiring a credential. The American Heart Association developed the Heartsaver family of products for people with limited or no medical training who need a credential in one or more of the following:
· CPR
· AED use
· First aid
Pre-requisites:
· The Heartsaver courses have no specific prerequisites.

Family and Friends CPR (2.5 hours, 1 day)
We created this program for anyone who wants to learn CPR and does not need a course completion card in CPR. You will learn CPR basics through this book and the video for the program. You will have a chance to practice many times while the video guides you. When you are not practicing with the video, you may watch the video, watch the other students practice, or follow along in your book.
Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisites for this course.

Heartsaver Bloodborne Pathogen Course* (2 hours plus employer’s site-specific exposure
control plan)
This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements when used with site-specific training. The training course has two parts:
· General bloodborne pathogen information – how to protect oneself; what to do when a workplace exposure occurs; how to clean the environment when a bloodborne pathogen exposure occurs, etc
· Employer’s Exposure Control Plan – The employer will provide this information
